PITTSBURGH, March 16, 2018 – The American Cable Association is pleased to announce that Secretary of Commerce Wilbur L. Ross, a key economic advisor to President Donald J. Trump and a business leader with decades of success in investment banking and private equity, will speak at ACA’s  Summit on Wednesday, March 21, at 4:30 p.m.

“It is a distinct honor for ACA to host Commerce Secretary Ross at our annual Summit at a time when the Trump Administration continues to adopt policies designed to spur economic growth. ACA members – who are business leaders in America’s small towns – understand fully the value of a pro-business environment that encourages growth and investment, but always puts customers first,”  ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka said.

Wilbur L. Ross was sworn in as the 39th Secretary of Commerce by Vice President Mike Pence. Secretary Ross is the principal voice of business in the Trump Administration, ensuring that U.S. entrepreneurs and businesses have the tools they need to create jobs and economic opportunity.

Secretary Ross oversees the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA), the agency that is principally responsible by law for advising the President on telecommunications and information policy issues. NTIA’s programs and policymaking focus largely on expanding broadband Internet access and adoption in America, expanding the use of spectrum by all users and ensuring that the Internet remains an engine for continued innovation and economic growth.

Secretary Ross is the former Chairman and Chief Strategy Officer of WL Ross & Co. LLC and has more than 55 years of investment banking and private equity experience. He has restructured more than $400 billion of assets in the airline, apparel, auto parts, banking, beverage, chemical, credit card, electric utility, food service, furniture, gypsum, homebuilding, insurance, marine transport, mortgage origination and servicing, oil and gas, railcar manufacturing and leasing, real estate, restaurant, shipyard, steel, textile and trucking industries.

Named by Bloomberg Markets as one of the 50 most influential people in global finance, Secretary Ross is the only person elected to both the Private Equity Hall of Fame and the Turnaround Management Hall of Fame.

The ACA Summit is a truly special event that allows small and midsize cable, phone and broadband companies that connect hometown America to engage with leading lawmakers and regulators as well as media representatives that report on communications policy in Washington, D.C. Created in the early 1990s, the ACA Summit gives independent operators a vehicle for framing the diverse and complex issues in their own words during dozens of meetings on Capitol Hill and with regulators at the Federal Communications Commission.

The theme for this year’s ACA Summit is “Standing The Test Of Time,” a statement indicative of the endurance and dedication shown by independent operators over many years in creating a collective voice in Washington. Over the course of ACA’s history, the independent cable community always embraced the wisdom of Abraham Lincoln, who said, “Be sure you put your feet in the right place, then stand firm.”

The ACA Summit website includes event details and secure online registration. Please visit the ACA Summit 2018 website by clicking here: ACA Summit. The event will take place at the Grand Hyatt, 1000 H Street NW, Washington, D.C. 20001. This year’s Summit includes the annual “fly-in” to Washington with its members and, as such, will use the Twitter hashtag #Summit25 for all social media about the event.
