April 9, 2026—America’s Communications Association (ACA Connects) released the following statement regarding reports that the Department of Justice (DOJ) opened an investigation into the potential anticompetitive practices of the National Football League (NFL).
“Watching a season of your favorite NFL team has turned into a $1,000-a-year scavenger hunt,” said Grant Spellmeyer, President and CEO of America’s Communications Association. “It is not only unfair to sports fans, but also to pay-TV subscribers everywhere who are forced to subsidize excessive league fees. ACA Connects supports a holistic DOJ investigation into sports programming costs – one that examines both league practices and the outrageous retransmission fees that broadcasters extract from consumers. The DOJ should help ensure games are both accessible and affordable for all Americans.”
