June 24, 2025—ACA Connects: America’s Communications Association released the following statement regarding House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Brett Guthrie’s (R-KY-2) speech at The Media Institute today calling for an update to the 1992 Cable Act:
“ACA Connects thanks Chairman Guthrie for urging congressional action on outdated regulations governing the communications industry. As I testified before the House Energy and Commerce Committee, while much of the 1992 Cable Act has stood the test of time, there are provisions that have not worked as intended for smaller operators and their subscribers. Retransmission consent and must carry top the list, especially in our much-changed video marketplace,” said ACA Connects President and CEO Grant Spellmeyer.
“ACA Connects and our Members stand ready to work with the Chairman and his colleagues on a bipartisan, bicameral effort to enact a regulatory framework that reflects today’s marketplace, unlocks innovation, and ensures worldclass services for the American people.”
