PITTSBURGH, Feb. 10, 2010 –  The American Cable Association is pleased to announce that its Web site for ACA Summit 2010 is now active and will serve as your personal portal to an exciting event near Washington, D.C., on April 19-21 that puts the small cable operator community in direct contact with Obama Administration officials, Capitol Hill lawmakers and members of the media covering communications issues.

This year marks the 17th annual ACA Summit, a unique forum highlighting the special role that independent cable operators play in providing state-of-the-art communications services in some of the most remote corners of the country. No one understands the critical broadband infrastructure needs of rural American better than the independent cable community.

Public policy issues viewed within the context of a dynamic, ever-changing market environment represent a continuing challenge to the owners and operators of small cable companies, who are always striving to make the right moves on the complex chess board of competition.

For that reason, the theme of this year’s summit — It’s Your Move! — appropriately reminds ACA members that staying ahead in business requires thinking several moves ahead on such key policy issues as the proposed merger between Comcast Corp. and NBC Universal, retransmission consent reform, broadband deployment and efforts to reform the Universal Service Fund so that subsidies flow to rural broadband access providers for the first time in the 76-year history of the Federal Communications Commission.

“ACA represents nearly 900 small, independent cable providers who are at the center of major policy developments in Washington, D.C. This year’s ACA Summit will offer the perfect opportunity to stimulate debate and discussion on such important topics as making broadband affordable and accessible to every American,” ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka said. “Each year, the Summit offers viewpoints you need to hear and produces surprises you don’t want to miss.”

ACA members rely on the Summit as a way of educating policymakers that independent cable operators have concerns unique to their circumstances and that federal telecommunications policies designed for the largest players can often result in negative consequences for smaller providers located in rural and smaller communities across America.

The three-day event features ACA member meetings on Capitol Hill and public sessions on regulatory and legislative issues. A lobbying preparation session, networking events, and an expanded exhibit hall for programmers, technology vendors, and service providers are also important components of the event.

The ACA Summit Web site includes event details and secure, online registration. ACA is currently seeking exhibitors and sponsors for the event. Interested parties should contact Stacey Leech at [email protected] or 412.922.8300, ext. 15.

Further information about the ACA Summit 2010 agenda and the exciting lineup of speakers will be made available on the Web site closer to the time of the event.
