ACA Praises New Cybersecurity Report As Helpful Development In Managing Nation’s Cyber Threats

PITTSBURGH, March 18, 2015 – American Cable Association President and CEO Matthew M. Polka issued the following statement regarding the release of the report, “Cybersecurity Risk Management and Best Practices,” by the Fourth Communications Security, Reliability, and Interoperability Council (CSRIC):

“The new Cybersecurity Risk Management and Best Practices Final Report provides valuable and important tools for communications industry firms to use in managing the risks of rapidly evolving cyber threats and improving cybersecurity.  The product of a public-private partnership that included more than 100 cybersecurity professionals, this Report was made possible because both the public and private sectors support the vital national interest goal of enhancing the cybersecurity of communications networks.  Of significance is the Report’s recognition that the best and most effective way forward is through voluntary and flexible tools adapted to each company’s needs and circumstances – rather than prescriptive and static rules and regulations.

“ACA particularly appreciates that the Report both acknowledges the special economic and technical challenges that cybersecurity issues pose for smaller cable operator members of ACA, and aims some of its assistance in their direction.  ACA members will review and use the contents of the Report in a timely way to manage the particular risks they face and improve cybersecurity.

“ACA also appreciates and thanks ACA Chairman and MCTV President Bob Gessner for his time and participation as part of the advisory group that reviewed and approved this Final Report.”
