ACA’s Top Awards Given At 13th Independent Show

PITTSBURGH, August 15, 2018 − The American Cable Association honored several distinguished individuals and companies in recognition of their efforts not only in support of the organization but also in developing broadband strategies that have transformed their local communities into technology hubs across the country.

“ACA is pleased to recognize these colleagues and companies whose leadership serves as a role model throughout the industry,” ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka said. “On behalf of ACA’s Board of Directors, we are pleased to honor those who have invested in ACA’s advocacy efforts, their employees and their companies. We thank them for their efforts and are pleased to put the spotlight on them.”

The awards presentation took place Monday, July 30, at ACA’s annual Members’ Meeting at the 13th Independent Show in Anaheim, Calif. ACA’s top honors were presented as follows:

LYN SIMPSON GRASSROOTS SPIRIT AWARD: Brian Lynch, Schurz Communications.
Presented to a company or individual embodying the passion and commitment that Lyn brought to the small operator community in her role as an ACA founding member in the early 1990s. The award underscores the value of commitment, dedication, and sacrifice to the independent cable business.

ACA PAC LEADERSHIP/COMPANY: Big Sandy Broadband.
This award recognizes Big Sandy Broadband for greatly increasing PAC contribution totals and significantly increasing the number of ACA PAC donors in the past year.

PAC INDIVIDUAL AWARD: Paul Hannigan, President, Bee Line Cable.
The PAC Individual Award recognizes enthusiasm, dedication and support for the ACA PAC and for creating a culture of knowledge within the company regarding the ACA PAC’s important role and purpose.

ACA PARTNERSHIP AWARD: NCTI
This award is for partnership, commitment and support for ACA and independent cable businesses everywhere.

ACA EAGLE AWARD: Earle MacKenzie, (Retired) Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer, Shentel
Presented for making outstanding contributions to independent cable operators and providing critical leadership to help build support for new laws and regulations designed for smaller, full-service communications providers. (MacKenzie received his award June 28 at his retirement party at Shentel headquarters in Edinburg, Va.)
