American Cable Association President and CEO Matthew M. Polka Calls Fox’s Offer To Cablevision A Sham

PITTSBURGH, October 28, 2010 – “Fox’s rejection of Cablevision’s extremely generous offer is overwhelming evidence that Fox is determined to exploit a shattered retransmission consent regime in order to fleece 3 million Cablevision customers in the New York City area, the largest TV market in the country.

“Fox, the second media giant this year to stalk Cablevision with crusading zeal, has put terms on the table that are a sham. Fox’s saying that Cablevision’s choice is between overpriced programming bundles or even more overpriced a la carte TV station options is like asking a bank whether it prefers to be robbed during the day or night.

“With the World Series under way, we encourage the FCC to come to the defense of millions of baseball fans. ACA believes the FCC should act on its broad statutory authority to protect the public interest by ordering immediate restoration of the Fox TV signals and entry into a binding arbitration process that is affordable for both parties. Now that would be a fall classic, and Chairman Genachowski would be its MVP.”
