House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise To Address ACA Summit

Third-Ranking House GOP Leader To Outline Legislative Goals For 2015

PITTSBURGH, February 23, 2015 – The American Cable Association is honored to announce that House Majority Whip Rep. Steve Scalise, Republican of Louisiana, will address ACA members who will gather in Washington, D.C., March 3-5, for the trade group’s 22nd annual policy summit.

“As the author of pathbreaking legislation that started the movement to update our communications laws, Rep. Steve Scalise has a deep understanding of the issues that ACA members care about the most.  ACA greatly appreciates that Rep. Scalise will join ACA members, share his views on communications and other legislative matters, and take the time to address our members’ concerns,” ACA President and CEO Matthew M. Polka said.

Rep. Scalise will address ACA Summit attendees on Thursday, March 5, at 8:00 a.m.

Last November, House Republicans – including newly elected and returning lawmakers – elected their leadership team for the 114th Congress, naming Rep. Steve Scalise as House Majority Whip, second in line to the Speaker of the House.  In 2013, Rep. Scalise introduced the Next Generation Television Marketplace Act, a bill intended to update our communications laws, including retransmission consent rules, that have failed to keep pace with rapid changes in the marketplace.

Rep. Scalise proudly represents the First Congressional District of Louisiana, which stretches from the culturally distinct New Orleans suburbs to the vibrant bayous and wetlands abundant in natural resources. During the 113th Congress, he served as chairman of the Republican Study Committee.

Rep. Scalise has built a strong reputation as a conservative leader who upholds the Constitution, advocating for the principles of fiscal discipline, lower taxes, an all-of-the-above national energy strategy, a robust national defense, and conservative values.

ACA’s more than 800 independent cable operators play a unique role in providing best-in-class communications services to millions of consumers, many living and working in rural areas of the country.  These operators also are competitive providers of cable service in urban areas, bringing choice and price competition to consumers.  When it comes to responding to the critical broadband infrastructure needs of America, ACA Members are supplying the solutions.

Created in the early 1990’s, the ACA Summit gives independent cable operators a vehicle for framing the issues in their own words during dozens of meetings on Capitol Hill over a short period of time. More so than ever, ACA Members agree on the need to speak with one voice and to be as visible as possible in making their views known on the diverse and complex issues facing their companies.

About the American Cable Association: Based in Pittsburgh, the American Cable Association is a trade organization representing about 850 smaller and medium-sized, independent cable companies who provide broadband services for more than 7 million cable subscribers primarily located in rural and smaller suburban markets across America.  Through active participation in the regulatory and legislative process in Washington, D.C., ACA’s members work together to advance the interests of their customers and ensure the future competitivenes and viability of their business.  For more information, visithttps://acaconnects.org/
