In this video, ACA Connects visits Member Company TVS Cable. The company was started in 1966 with 40 cable systems in a hilly and rocky region of southeast Kentucky, a place that gets about as rural and rural can get. With years of patient investment, TVS Cable has bet on the future by providing voice, video and data to all customers. “We’ve built into a lot of unserved areas,” says David Thacker, TVS Cable Assistant Manager, from his office in Hindman (pop. 635). TVS passes about 32,000 homes and has deployed about 930 miles of fiber. About 14,000 homes are passed by TVS fiber and TVS broadband speeds go as high as 1 Gig. TVS Cable’s broadband investment really paid off during the COVID-19 pandemic because it allowed kids to attend school remotely and not lose an entire year of instruction, Thacker says. TVS is also adding to its retail presence to feel more a part of the local community and hire local people.
